Our extra-curricular highlights

CPS strives to provide a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom. Our co-curricular activities offer students a variety of opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and contribute to the school community.

Domain of Potential: Social Emotional

This area nurtures students’ ability to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and develop resilience. It promotes well-being, empathy, and effective communication within the school community.

School Captains
Year 6 students serve as leaders and representatives of the student body, promoting school spirit, fostering a positive school environment, and acting as a liaison between students and staff.
Year 5 students nominate themselves to participate in the leadership process and may be elected in Term 4 for the coming 12 months.
Sports Captains
Year 6 students lead and inspire their teams, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude while representing their school in competitions and events.
Year 5 students nominate themselves to participate in the leadership process and may be elected in Term 4 for the coming 12 months.
SRC
Year 2 - Year 6 students serve as a voice for the student body, allowing students to express their views, advocate for their needs, and participate in decision-making processes within the school community.
Year 2 - Year 6 students nominate themselves to participate in the leadership process and may be elected in Term 1 for the remainder of the year.
Playground Area Leaders (PALs)
Senior students promote social interaction and inclusion during recess and lunch. They help others make friends, participate in games and foster a positive school environment.
Students nominate themselves to be selected / participate.
Library Monitors
Senior students assist in maintaining a conducive learning environment in the library by helping to organise resources, ensuring proper behaviour, and supporting fellow students in accessing materials.
Students nominate themselves to participate and are then selected.
Gardening
Students of all ages meet regularly to care for and learn about the environment.
Students may attend any of the nominated lunchtimes.

Domain of Potential: Creative

This domain encourages students to explore and express their creativity through visual arts, music, drama, and dance. It fosters imagination, innovation, and cultural appreciation.

Band
Students from Years 3 - 6 are eligible for either Junior Band, Senior Band and Concert Band.
Students from Years 2 - 5 audition in Term 4 for the coming year.
Choir
Singers come together to perform vocal music, enhancing their singing skills and teamwork while exploring a variety of musical styles.
Students attend the audition selection process in Term 1. Students are then selected to form K-2 and 3-6 groups.
Dance Group
Students represent the school at NSW DET Schools Spectacular, Hill Performing Arts Concert and Synergy Dance Festival.
Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 attend the audition selection process in Term 1. Dancers are selected to form groups for Kindergarten, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3.
Debating
Senior students engaging in structured arguments against other local school teams, to develop critical thinking, public speaking, and reasoning skills.
Stage 3 students attend the audition selection process in Term 1.
String Group
Students play string instruments together to learn, perform, and develop their musical skills in an ensemble setting.
Junior and senior students attend the audition selection process in Term 1.

Domain of Potential: Physical

This domain supports the development of students’ physical health, coordination, and fitness. It encourages participation in sports and physical activities to promote lifelong healthy habits and well-being.

Winter

PSSA Teams

Teams participate in weekly training and games against other local school teams in the following sports: AFL, Netball, Newcombe Ball, Rugby League, Soccer.
Students attend the sport trial selection process in Term 1 or 2.

Summer

PSSA Teams

Teams participate in weekly training and games against other local school teams in the following sports: Basketball, Cricket, Softball, Touch Football, T-Ball
Students attend the sport trial selection process in Term 1 or 2.

Domain of Potential: Academic

This domain focuses on developing students’ knowledge, skills, and critical thinking through a broad and challenging curriculum. It supports students to achieve their best academically and prepares them for future learning and careers.

Chess
Students of all levels meet for regular competitive and/or social chess.
Students may attend any of the nominated lunchtimes.
Game Changer
Year 6 students participate in an inter-school competition, focusing on developing solutions to a real world problem.
Students are selected based on academic performance.
Maths Olympiad
Year 5 and 6 students participate in 4 inter-school competitions in Term 2 and 3, focusing on developing mathematical strategies.
Students are selected based on academic performance.
